Saturday Essays

Each Saturday GrokEarth publishes an essay at essays.grokearth.com that explores earth-related phenomena through science, art, literature, and poetry.
"As long as I live, I'll hear waterfalls and birds and winds sing. I'll interpret the rocks, learn the language of flood, storm, and the avalanche. I'll acquaint myself with the glaciers and wild gardens, and get as near the heart of the world as I can".
John Muir
GrokEarth considers the notion that the Earth's living and inert matter forms a complex system influenced by both well-understood and little-known forces. The Saturday Essay seeks to connect to and celebrate the known and dance toward the edge of the unknowns.
“We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.”

T. S. Eliot, Four Quartets
